What are the signs of a speech or language delay?
Some signs include:
Not babbling for 6-9 months
Not saying single words by 12-15 months
Difficulty combining words by age 2
Trouble following directions
Limited vocabulary compared to peers
Struggles with pronunciation beyond expected ages
At what age should my child start speech therapy?
Early intervention is key. If you notice speech or language delays, it’s best to have an evaluation as early as possible. Therapy can be beneficial at any age.
Does my child need speech or language therapy?
Children may benefit from speech therapy if they have difficulty with articulation (pronouncing sounds), language therapy (understanding information or using words), or social communication. A speech language pathologist (SLP) can assess their skills to determine if therapy is needed.
How does speech therapy work and how will I know if my child is making progress?
Speech therapy involves fun, structured activities targeting specific communication goals. This may include games, play-based learning, articulation drills, and social communication practice. Sessions typically include warmup activities, direct therapy (such as practicing sounds or language skills), and parent education. The sessions are tailored to your child’s needs. Your SLP will track progress and communicate regularly. Signs of improvement may include clearer speech, increased vocabulary, better sentence structure, or improved social interactions.
Do you take Insurance for therapy and/or for the evaluations?
Currently, Growing Voices Speech and Language Therapy LLC does not take insurance to cover the evaluation and/or therapy expenses, however we are able to generate a Superbill, which allows you to submit for possible full or partial reimbursement from your insurance company. We are currently in the process of applying to insurance companies to better serve the community.
